Bang OK Bang makes Heavy Planet's Top 10 of 2012

From Heavy Planet: 2012 has been a leviathan of a year for music, but don't we say something along those lines every year? Well, I believe that 2012's best are truly great and will retain a spot in my brain for years to come. Legendary... not quite, at least one cannot say so at this time, but great... definitely. So, throughout the good, the mediocre, and the "what the hell are they smokin'?" we come to the closing of 2012. Now, because we aren't hipsters here at Heavy Planet and we didn't do year-end lists way before they were cool, I would like to share with you my favorite albums that I feel any well rounded music fan should listen to at least, if not own. I would also like to try something new this year and share EP's that I felt honorable enough to hold their own against some of the heavy weights on the podium. So, without further hesitation click HERE for my favorites!

The Lumineers follow up last year's hit, "Ho Hey," with beautiful "Stubborn Love"

Early in 2012, The Lumineers broke through the contemporary music scene with last year’s hit “Ho Hey.” One short year later the band was performing onstage at both the Grammys and Saturday Night Live, once again captivating fans with their immense capability to inspire. “Ho Hey” has become a monster hit, garnering over 42,000,000 views on YouTube, and certainly a tough act to follow. Fortunately for all of us, they are not a one trick pony and their follow up video for “Stubborn Love” is every bit as moving and inspiring as “Ho Hey”, assuring that The Lumineers are here to stay. HIP's Proud To Present: Shout Out Louds "Walking In Your Footsteps"

Here at HIP Video Promo, we’ve always had a place in our hearts for our favorite Stockholmers, Shout Out Louds. Their album Our Ill Wills is a regular part of our playlists, along with their 2010 album Work. Shout Out Louds have presented music fans from all over with their fresh take on contemporary indie rock. Never afraid to push their musical boundaries the band was a trendsetter when it came to incorporating elements of everything from shoegazer to 80’s synth pop into their sound. Their new album Optica, along with the new video “Walking In Your Footsteps”, may just be their most ambitious effort yet, and the end result is one that may be their best yet.

In support of Work, members Adam, Bebban, Ted, Carl, and Eric headed out on their most successful tour known to date and then returned home with their own pursuits. When the time came to hunker down on another Shout Out Louds record, they had a certain idea to return to the playful spirit that first brought them together ten years ago. Rather than rehearsing and recording in the studio as they had always done, each member of Shout Out Louds felt free to write and work on their own parts individually as the new album Optica began to take shape. The record features a string composer that helps Optica achieve lush arrangements described by Carl as “Disney on drugs” and by Adam as “like warm mayonnaise.”

Shout Out Louds took their time with the songs on Optica, spending at least one and half years in a small Stockholm studio and producing themselves for the first time without the help from Johannes Berglund. A theme emerged presenting the world with Optica, an album that celebrates color and light. HIP Video Promo brought you video clips such as “Impossible” and “Tonight I Have To Leave It.” From the new album, we present “Walking In Your Footsteps.” Click HERE for the full bio on HIPVideoPromo.com.

Video Premiere: Drew Holcomb & The Neighbors "Good Light" via VH1.com and CMT.com!

Boy are we excited to be working the promotion of Drew Holcomb & The Neighbor's fantastic brand new video, "Good Light"! The good folks at VH1 and CMT are well aware of the band's brilliance too, as they just premiered the video on their official websites, VH1.com & CMT.com. Check out this awesome write-up via VH1.com:

"Have you noticed that the gap between “country music” and “rock music” continues to shrink with every passing year? Of course, we’re not talking about banjo-wielding purists singing tales about the joys of working at illegal moonshine distilleries, but more about performers like Eric Church and Jason Aldean are technically considered “country.” If you ever listen to their music or go to see them in concert, you’d be hard pressed to come up with a laundry list of things that differentiate their musical outlook from that of rock musicians. What we’re trying to say is this: Don’t turn your back on Drew Holcomb & The Neighbors just because they have been lumped into the “country” genre."

"If you’re not familiar with the name Drew Holcomb, there’s a decent chance that you’re familiar with his song “Live Forever,” which served as the soundtrack to a 2011 Emmy Award winning commercial for the NBA on TNT. The group’s latest song is “Good Light,” which is the title track off the band’s new album, set to be released at the end of the month. The warm Wurlitzer reminds us more than a little of the work of our former You Oughta Know band Dawes, and the song’s message about staying optimistic in the face of tough times is something that everyone can relate to."

We predict Drew Holcomb will be a household name by the end of 2013. We've been known to make predictions like this that have come to fruition. Ahem.. have you heard of The Lumineers?  Okay, okay...
Get on this train early. Trust us.

Click HERE to see the "Good Light" video for yourself in all its glory; and make sure you check out the band's official website for the latest on all things Drew Holcomb. The band's new album, Good Light, drops everywhere Feb 26th, but you can get yourself a copy one week early via iTunes Feb 19th! Spread the word, y'all!

Introducing E-Guttah

Ezekiel Harris, better known by his rap moniker E-Guttah, is a fierce and energetic rapper hailing from Miami, Florida. Full of an inexplicable Southern charm, E-Guttah takes his fans to a whole new world with his ardent vocals and happy-go-lucky demeanor. HIP Video Promo & KES Music & Video Distribution presents an all encompassing single and a debut video clip “We Can Do It Forever” featuring the powerful vocals of the artist Key Wayne.

E-Guttah’s story sounds familiar to the ears of most hip-hop artists—the youngest of nine siblings, he began washing cars and cutting yards at a young age. Growing up with his father mostly absent, he began to lose hope, but after a divorce his father was awarded custody of him. Young E watched as his life began to take a dramatic turn. The street life called his name, and the illusion of fast money being obtained by his negative actions of selling drugs took over his life. However, after a brush with death at the age of eighteen, Ezekiel made a full recovery and turned his life around.

E-Guttah began studying writing and vocabulary and soon learned the fundamentals of music. He then found his life’s true purpose, and his motivation currently lies within reaching out to his community as a positive force by teaching the younger generation through his own life experiences. His debut single “We Can Do It Forever” is a positive anthem that includes a highly unique and seductive subject matter. E-Guttah’s powerful lyrics are combined with the talented Key Wayne’s vocals to present music fans of every genre with a feel-good song that is both empowering and inspirational. B-Rad From The Breeze got started as an artist in 2006 under the name Delivery. During the course of four years, he released seven mix-tapes, a full-length album, and a three-track EP. In 2010 B-Rad took a brief hiatus from the music industry in order to find his true self through a spiritual awakening causing him to change his outlook on his craft as a musical genius. With a triumphant return to the music scene in 2011, B-Rad From The Breeze released The Awakening in January of 2011 and then the significant mix-tape The Rebroadcast in September 2011. This thoughtful new clip shines a light on feelings of both hope and hopelessness ... from Pistolera frontwoman branching out on her own ... SLV "Enough"

SLV is the solo project of Pistolera frontwoman/songwriter/founder Sandra Lilia Velásquez. After recording three studio albums to critical acclaim and touring extensively with Pistolera, her solo debut EP, Dig Deeper, will be released on February 12, 2013. Ten-time Grammy nominee and legendary bassist Meshell Ndegeocello produced the four-song recording and is also featured on the EP, playing bass on three of the four tracks. Ndegeocello shares songwriting credit on the first track, “Enough”, which SLV made into her debut music video. SLV’s power to create inspiring tunes is included in this revolutionary video clip, representing all that this powerful artist emanates.

HIP Video Promo presents her stark and modern video clip “Enough” from her highly anticipated EP Dig Deeper, which capture SLV promoting a balance of raw energy and captivating lyrics that highlight her musical demeanor.

NPR called her last Pistolera album “modern…daring…inventive”, yet it is with her new solo project that we realize there are no limits to this artists boundaries. “Enough” is a song that explores the pressures of living in a complex society. Viewers are presented with the image of a fatigued priest who is trying to answer the internal question of what else he can do, while SLV sings the songs in a confessional booth. She speaks to the collective anxiety we face as a nation that no matter how much good we try to do it will never be enough to create the society think it should be. SLV soars throughout this song “Enough” and the clip takes us to a place of utter amazement. Click here for the full bio on HIPVideoPromo.com.

How To Promote Your Music Video; Exclusive Interview With HIP Video Promo CEO Andy Gesner

So you just finished making a fantastic music video that you've invested a lot of time and effort in producing and now you want it properly and professionally presented to music fans throughout the world? Well of course you do! HIP Video Promo can help make that dream become a reality. It's what we do. In fact, it's practically ALL we do. So we know how to do it right.

HIP Video owner/president, Andy Gesner, recently sat down with the guys at IndependentMusicPromotion.com to give them the rundown on who we are, the importance of promoting your music video smartly, who we work with, and much, much more. Check out an excerpt below...

Q: Most bands and artists shoot a video, put it straight on their social networks and YouTube, and then begin the cycle of looking for views wherever they can find them. What’s missing from the master plan here? Why do you think proper video promotion falls by the wayside in most cases?

A: Upcoming bands and artists immediately think that professional music video promotion does not fit into their budget, or because of budgetary constraints, don’t think they can afford our services. If a tree falls in the woods and no one is there to hear it, does it make a sound? If you really have an outstanding music video, you’re selling yourself short if you don’t get it out there to all the potential outlets that could give your video serious consideration for programming. It does require a lot of up front attention to detail, and this is the kind of thing best left to the professionals. So many of my programmers complain they get dozens of videos each month, but either the tape doesn’t work right, it’s not dubbed in stereo, it’s not closed captioned, or the aspect ratio isn’t right. That means that these folks have sent all these videos out, and no one’s going to be able to play them. Because we’ve promoted so many videos, we’ve got a system down with excruciatingly stringent quality control. We are always confident that the videos that hit our programmer’s desks are 100% ready for immediate programming. Sure, the cost of admission into our tent is not a small amount, but if you put a lot of time and effort and money into producing a music video, it makes no sense to just have it sit on your YouTube page.
