TRAPT "Reborn" currently ranked NUMBER 1 Rock album on iTunes

You read that headline right! Modern rock royalty, TRAPT, and their balls-to-the-wall new record, Reborn, are straight tearing up the charts - gaining huge and well-deserved attention. The critically acclaimed album hit number one just a few days ago on the iTunes Rock Chart, and these days, to accomplish such a feat is... well... damn near impossible with all the illegal downloading going down on the internet - making selling records all that much harder than it had already been. Show Alert: Susan James in LA January 26th!

Heads up LA-based Susan James fans. This wonderfully talented singer/songwriter is set to perform at the Theosophical Society, in the Annie Besant Lodge this Saturday. Tix are $10!

Check out this great write-up on Susan in LA Weekly:

Susan James wanted to do something different after finishing her fifth album, Driving Toward the Sun. She's had wild record-release parties before — two years ago, the Topanga singer-guitarist celebrated the arrival of her previous CD, Highways, Ghosts, Hearts and Home, with performances from literally half of the local power-pop underground and alt-country aristocracy. Tonight the musical focus will be solely on James and her crafty backup band, but that doesn't mean she doesn't have other surprises in store. Tarot readers and magicians will create an air of mystery, and more magic will be conveyed by comedian Rick Overton, who, James promises, "will bend your mind like … a spoon." Eschewing the usual nightclub setting, the singer has booked the historic and intimate Besant Lodge, whose stained-glass windows should cast a reverential, violet-tinged glow over James' new songs, such as "Wandering," in which her radiant vocals soar serenely over an appropriately sunny jingle-jangle of country-rock guitars. "I got a compass for a heart/and a pickaxe mind," she sings. "We'll follow our dreams/while the blacktop snake unwinds."

and if you haven't done so already, check out her beautiful vid for her single "Wandering"

Introducing The Capsules

With influences such as Radiohead, Muse, Metric and My Bloody Valentine, The Capsules have created a blend of musical genres with their dream-pop inspired walls of sound. Their latest videos “Across the Sky” and “Our Apocalypse,” translate the space that exists between reality and the state of whimsy, which makes up the magnificently beautiful music of The Capsules.

Singer/guitarist Julie Shields has a comforting voice while the melodic bass of Jason Shields and Kevin Trevino’s understated drumming keep the tracks deceptively simple. Jason and Julie have been writing music together since high school. During the process, they fell in love, got married, and started their first band Shallow. As Shallow was winding down, Jason and Julie were looking to progress their music towards a more simplified sound. Kevin Trevino had been a fan of the band and after a few rehearsals, they formed under the new name The Capsules. They began touring, making records, and winning fans, and were soon asked by creator Steven Hillenburg to write a song for an episode of SpongeBob SquarePants. Their music has also been featured in the PBS Television show Roadtrip Nation, and in video games including the megahit Borderlands 2. They have shared the stage with some great musical acts such as The Flaming Lips, Garbage, Mercury Rev, and Low.

In regards to their music writing, The Capsules have a tendency for sleepless nights, writing pensive and late night reveries. These elements are catapulting within the realms of their songs on the album Northern Lights & Southern Skies. Tracks unfold into a place where the heart is open to the mysterious thoughts pertaining to the universe, and help music listeners gain a little bit of insight into the experiences of love, loss, and longing. However, The Capsules decided to expand their musical pallets on Northern Lights & Southern Skies and used less guitar and more keyboards, loops, and electronics than they have on previous efforts. “Across the Sky” and “Our Apocalypse” still contains their otherworldly aura including a dark edge that keeps everything rooted to the earth. Sarah Jaffe's Music Video Director Has Highly Anticipated Movie Debuting at Sundance!

CHECK THIS OUT!

Ain’t Them Bodies Saints

The Sundance Synopsis: Bob Muldoon and Ruth Guthrie, an impassioned young outlaw couple on an extended crime spree, are finally apprehended by lawmen after a shootout in the Texas hills. Although Ruth wounds a local officer, Bob takes the blame. But four years later, Bob escapes from prison and sets out to find Ruth and their daughter, born during his incarceration.
The barren landscapes of David Lowery’s poetic feature evoke the mythology of westerns and saturate the dramatic space with fatalism and an aching sense of loss. Aided by powerfully restrained performances by Casey Affleck, Rooney Mara and Ben Foster, Lowery incorporates an unnerving tension into the film, teetering it at the edge of violence.

The beautiful, irreconcilable dilemma of the story is that Ruth—compelled by the responsibilities of motherhood and her evolving relationship with the deputy she shot—remains haunted by her intense feelings for Bob. Each of them longs for some form of peace. Ironically, it’s Bob, the unrepentant criminal trapped in the romantic image of a bygone past, who is driven by an almost righteous sense of clarity. Following in the footsteps of Badlands and Bonnie and Clyde, Lowery’s humanism transcends the genre.

The Key Players: Director David Lowery; Casey Affleck, Rooney Mara, Ben Foster

The Draw: Director David Lowery edited two of our favorite festival films of last year—Kris Swanberg’s Empire Builder and Amy Seimetz’s Sun Don’t Shine. And Casey Affleck is a must-see in any project he’s a part of. At least when it doesn’t involve Joaquin Phoenix.

Watch: Eric Dill "In My Head" Live on WISH TV - Indy Style Show in Indianapolis

Eric Dill recently performed his upcoming single, "In My Head" in the studios of WISH TV in Indianapolis and as you should expect, it was quite a performance.

From WISH TV: Eric Dill returned to Indianapolis in late 2012, the platinum-certified, award-winning artist and singer-songwriter relocated to his native Indianapolis from Hollywood and released his Forever Is Not Enough album on his own Vigil Records. Both milestones signal the next chapters in Dill’s life.

His album, in particular, is an artistic tour-de-force, a cohesive collection of tunes that are sonically and thematically divergent but combine for a rousing aural adventure.

Watch: Sarah Jaffe "Mannequin Woman"

For quite some time, we have had the pleasure of working with the Kirtland Records crew and once again we are eager to present viewers with the astonishing and glorified music maker whom we have watched grow musically and stylistically—Sarah Jaffe. Following up on the charming and exquisite “Glorified High” video from her new album, The Body Wins, we are excited to bring her newest offering, the visually stunning “Mannequin Woman.”

Jaffe began working on the album The Body Wins the day she bought a bass and drum set from a pawnshop. That same day she wrote the rhythmic tune “A Sucker For Your Marketing,” a song that shaped her second full-length album. Jaffe had pent-up creative energy inside her, after spending most of the year traveling and touring behind her debut (Suburban Nature), seeing and feeling things, soaking up the world. The Body Wins may sound different to those introduced to her through Suburban Nature. It should. But it’s not by any grand design to change. It’s where she’s at now, a product of everywhere she’s been since Suburban Nature—literally and figuratively—and a hint of everywhere she might go from here.

Sarah Jaffe’s career saw a great year in 2012, where she got to tour alongside with artists Blitzen Trapper, Norah Jones, David Grey and New Multitiudes. In early December, she performed on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live, NPR says “Jaffe has completed the transition from “musician” to “artist,” and she wears it well. “The whole album makes the sound of an emboldened singer in complete command. Jaffe has completed the transition from ‘musician’ to ‘artist,’ and she wears it well.” The clip for “Mannequin Woman” is a glimpse into who that artist has become . The video displays Jaffe at her finest, standing against a stark, white background. Sarah’s eccentricity takes hold of the melodic structures of the song, and as she sings melting lyrics such as, “Send my brain in circles, / shed my bitter skin. / Still a mannequin woman,” viewers see the personal side of Jaffe’s character.

Check Out One Less Reason's Newest Clip "Uneasy" Featuring Blair Simpson

The powerful lyrics of One Less Reason's music are anecdotes for survival. The rock inspired ballads are teeming with experimental elements that echo all types of different genres. One Less Reason is a band that emanates contemporary rock music, and maintains their powerful appreciation for everlasting emotions within the concept of their new album A Blueprint for Writhing; tracks include gritty hard-hitting anthems that prove to be poignant, poetic ballads, including the meaningful, yet creative track for the newest video clip "Uneasy" featuring artist Blair Simpson.

The video clip begins with an introductory statement explaining, "On September 17th 1982, a Mercedes was driven off the road by a drunk driver in the small town of Almena, Kansas. The driver was killed on impact after the car had hit a tree." Featuring the fantastic and mesmerizing vocals of Blair Simpson, "Uneasy" is a solemn creation of a song that inspires all to recognize the powerful actions of saying goodbye.

Sarah Jaffe's Music to be Featured in Pixar's New Short "The Blue Umbrella": Plus New Video "Mannequin Woman" to Premier

Pixar is best known for its full-length feautures such as the Toy Story and Cars movies, but the computer-animation studio has a history of making short films used to help develop technology and create tools for computer animation.
